I boiled water on my stove and it exploded!?

Hi, I was trying to boil water last night on my electric stove. I remember commenting that it was taking longer than usual to boil – it was steaming like crazy but not boiling. Suddenly the water just exploded – and whatever water was left in the pot then began boiling happily away.

I’m assuming that somehow the water was superheated (which I know can happen in microwaves). But on a stovetop? What happened? How can I prevent this in the future?

For reference: I was using a stainless steel 2-quart pot, tap water, and an electric coil stovetop. Immediately before cooking, I had washed the pot with dish soap and a scrubby brush, rinsed well, and then filled with hot tap water.

How do I get Popcorn Grease off of my pot?!?!?

I have this very large stainless steel pot that I always use to make pop corn. I always wash it but there seems to be this layer of oil that does not want to scrub off. I want to use this pot to make another dish but I want it to be really clean before I use it! I’ve been using hot water, dish soap and A LOT of elbow grease. I have also boiled water in the pot hoping that the heat will lift the grease and it will just pour out. There was a lot of oil in the water, but the bottom was still dirty. And whenever I have extra space in my dishwasher I throw it in hoping that it’ll do something. Is there tips for cleaning this pot?
yes, it is sticky all over the bottom of the pot…I really wanted to use this large pot to make a big batch of iced tea…but not with all that oil stuck to it…

Why are my stainless steel pots not dishwasher safe?

We got married last July, and got some very nice items for the kitchen. Unfortunately, ‘nice’ seems to be synonymous with ‘not dishwasher safe’. I understand the breakable items, but we have a set of Calphalon pots and pans that say in their manual that washing them in the dishwasher voids the lifetime guarantee. I don’t understand how I can have boiling liquids in it and use metal spatulas and whisks that I would think would do more damage than a dishwasher.

Is it harmful to them to go in the dishwasher? It seems like I spend so much of my evenings scrubbing pots and pans!

We also have Kitchenaid knives that are not supposed to go in the dishwasher. They are all metal, and I wash them in hot water and scrub them, which is what a dishwasher would do.

Does anyone have any insight on this? Thanks in advance!
What if I put regular dish soap (like I use in the sink) and run it like that?

How do I clean a pot with extremely burnt rice on it?

Seriously, the bottom of the pot is pretty much pitch black. I’ve let it soak for about an hour with dish soap and hot water, and it didn’t really do much. I’ve scrubbed at it with as much as elbow grease as I can muster. I can’t use steel wool because the pot is stainless steel and will scratch. Any ideas?

We rinsed an air filter from a gas motor in a stainless steel cooking pot, is it okay to use?

We rinsed out an air filter in a stainless steel cooking pot, but we are now soaking it in dish soap and hot water… is it still okay to use?
